The Balancing Act

‘The Balancing Act’ represents the dilemma of how to become more sustainable in working practices.  Having spent decades developing his skills Allister was driven to find solutions to keep his craft going. On one hand the material demands a high consumption of energy, on the other change requires a big  investment in money and time to develop new skills.

Inspired by ancient stone figures Allister has set out to emulate the chiselled effects in glass. These pieces are sculpted over a series of weeks in our all electric glass studio. The figures are slowly cooled before the surface details evolve with diamond tools . These figures are then taken to a high temperature to be manipulated and polished by fire.
