Medieval Kiln Project in Wednesbury Town Centre


A Collaborative Project with Steve Field RBSA.
Sculptural feature for centre of new Wednesbury town square 2007 based on the form of a Mediaeval Pottery Kiln as found during the excavations of the square.

Designed and researched by Steve Field, Metal work by Appollo Fabrications. Glass blocks cast and installed by Allister Malcolm.
Text surrounding the base by local Wednesbury writer Brendan Hawthorne "Firepit Glory Holes illuminating darkness with the promise of a new dawn"
The treatment of the symbolic oval "firepits" in the floor surrounding the igloo-like Kiln was very much inspired by Allister's cast glass semi-circular sculptures with intricate canework (see also cast range)
